Regional Recipient

Sharon Whitt

Despite being a small school, Eugene Vaters Collegiate in St. John's Newfoundland has had five of its students write the Canadian Mathematical Invitational Contest, in which only 150 students in each of Grade 10 and 11 from across Canada participate. No doubt, Math Department Head Sharon Whitt's successful accelerated mathematics program contributed to this success. The program, which provides a challenging learning environment for gifted students, has already been adapted by three other schools.
